Scaling and Root Planning Procedure

Scaling and Root Planning is a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and tartar from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins. This process is broken into four visits - one for each quadrant of your mouth. After all quadrants are done you will have a full mouth cleaning followed by an oral exam with Dr. Spivey to evaluate your periodontal health. Typically patients then alternate their re-care visits with their general dentist.
